DJA was founded
March 1998. We are an informal group bringing women anglers together to
fish, socialize, learn about other women's fly fishing groups in other
areas, organize fly fishing and fly tying classes and trips, and generally
have an enjoyable time. Our club promotes conservation, environmental
issues, habitat improvement, and catch & release. We strongly support
Casting For Recovery and offer women's seminars with women instructors;
outings for women only; conservation projects; and other great activities.

Our Club has 206 members. Every year we are busy
creating fun trips. Our members arrive at the destination in their special
decorated trailers. Sometimes we do day trips and fly into a remote lake for
a great day of fly fishing, then fly back to camp to stay in our trailers.
We have a gourmet cook who prepares a fabulous meal for us while we sip on a
glass of wine. We have a brochure and check out our web site for more
details.

GWWFF is the most
exciting club in San Francisco! We started out in 1983 as two friends
getting together to start a club, and now we have about 150 women who meet
and FLY FISH! On the second Tuesday of every month (except July and
August), we meet to exchange fishing stories and ideas, and to learn from
one another and experts who are invited to do programs and spend a very
social and congenial evening. We have fishing outings, several a month
during the fishing season. We also have conservation projects, the most
important being the urban in-school aquatic program which has hundreds of
children very excited about cleaning up a stream and incubating and raising
native trout and other sensitive riparian and aquatic species. They then
release them into the streams they have adopted. GWWFF also does bi-yearly
fund-raisers to finance all the projects we are involved in. Complete
beginner fly fishers learn from our more experienced members. We have a good
time together and have made friendships, which are going strong after many
years.

Our Club was founded in April 2000. The purpose of
the Shasta Mayflies is to encourage women's awareness of fly fishing as a
sport; to improve our skills as anglers through fellowship and a friendly
exchange of casting, catching and releasing techniques; to promote and
encourage youth, physically challenged, and senior fly fishing anglers; to
function as an effective link with other groups in the community; and to
encourage conservation of resources. Our membership skill level ranges from
women who have never fished to those with a lot of fishing mileage behind
them. While the Shasta Mayflies is a women-oriented club, men and families
are welcomed. They have contributed many interesting ideas and skills, and
make our outings and meeting extra fun and informative. The Club members
have benefited from free casting clinics, knot- tying clinics, fly tying
demos and workshops, and equipment and gear demonstrations. Our programs
have included expert presentations on fishing techniques, fly tying, casting
seminars, and great fishing destinations - both near home and in exotic
locations. Our community has been involved in casting instruction for
Casting for Recovery, information booths at the Return of the Salmon
Festival, and assisted kids at Anderson Family Fun Fest and Free Kid's
Fishing Day, and provided scholarships to FISHCAMP, a summer fly fishing
camp for kids. We have 49 members, 4 ladies over 65 years old, and 5 members
under 18 years old. We love to fish both rivers and lakes; a few of us fish
in the salt as well. Many members get together outside of the club to fish
all over the country and world. Our current President is Chrissie Clapp. She

Women Anglers of Minnesota (WAM) incorporated
in November 1977 as the first women’s fishing organization in the state.
Throughout the calendar year, Women Anglers of Minnesota provides
opportunities for women to participate in the sport of fishing, to improve
their fishing skills, and to fish for variety of species, while providing
informational and educational programs on sportfishing. These programs
frequently include experts from the fishing community as guest speakers, and
much more. WAM promotes the spirit of good sportsmanship and fellowship and
provides opportunities for the friendly exchange of ideas and techniques.
It promotes respect for fish as a species, its preservation as a natural
resource, and encourages "catch and release.”

GVWW is a club
that promotes fly fishing for women and establishment of friendships with
other women. We have at least one outing or clinic per month. Several owners
of local fly fishing shops and their guides have supported us by providing
clinics and fishing outings. Topics of the clinics and fishing trips have
included casting, gear selection, rods, reels, lines, leaders, flies,
clothing, etc., reading water, noxious weed pulls, lake fishing, drift boat
fishing, and wade fishing. In 2003 through the Montana Department of Fish,
Wildlife and Parks, GVWW, along with Montana Troutfitters, (a fly shop owned
by Josh Stanish adopted a public fishing access site on the Gallatin River)
near Manhattan, MT. Twice a year we are responsible for cleaning the trash
from the site as well as pulling any noxious weeds that may be growing
there. Our annual dues are $25 which allows members free participation in
all clinics, fishing trips and events unless otherwise stated in schedule;
fly box with 6 flies; newsletter; and roster of members. Non-members are
welcomed and invited to participate for a fee of $5 per clinic or fishing
outing, and will receive a copy of the newsletter and be added to the GVWW
email list. Clinics and fishing trips that we have enjoyed during the past 3
summers include: bug identification, gear and clothing, casting, techniques
of casting dry flies, nymphs and streamers, noxious weeds, as well as, lake,
wade and drift boat fishing. And we are in the early stages of exploring
such a possibility with the emphasis on promoting fly fishing for either a
local Girl Scout troop or high school girls.

Northern Hemisphere, so in March we are heading into winter. In March the
lake fishing becomes more productive as the fish come up from the deep cool
water to the surface and prepare for spawning. Catching big fish at this
time of year is a real buzz since the fish are in good condition and put up
a good fight. It can also be a challenge to get a good fish onto the hook,
as nearer June they are more interested in the breeding part than the eating
part. Stream fishing continues to be productive although the more the
temperatures drop the cooler the water becomes and the more chance there is
of heavy rain flooding the streams. Then fishing becomes more of a
challenge. Our Club is not exclusively female, but there are a quite a
number of couples who both fish, so the woman can get together with other
women to discuss aspects of fishing. On club trips there is a good- hearted
rivalry with the men, and it is not uncommon for the females to outfish the
guys, at least some of the time. Our season ends in June for most boat
fishing on the lakes with most streams closing to enable the fish to spawn.
Some shoreline fishing is still available and a small number of lakes can
still be fished by boat, but as the weather declines, the fishing also
declines. Time to check out our gear, tie a few flies and dream of the
season to come, which opens October 1st.

We named
our group as Welsh Ladies Angling Division because WLAD in Welsh language
means Country. At the beginning, some anglers thought that there was no need
to have ladies group. But now we are doing well and have some 25 members.
Among us, 12 anglers are in the Welsh Ladies Fly Fishing Team. We recently
acquired grants to purchase equipment, etc. as our aim is to involve more
women young and old in fishing.
